Officer Cadets from the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, visited the School of Artillery on 22 June 2026 as part of their professional military education and orientation programme, gaining valuable exposure to the operational capabilities and technological advancements of the Indian Army’s Regiment of Artillery.
The visit was designed to familiarise future officers with the professionalism, combat effectiveness, and evolving role of one of the Army’s principal combat arms. Through a series of briefings and demonstrations, the cadets were introduced to the latest developments in artillery warfare and the technologies shaping modern battlefields.
During the programme, cadets received detailed briefings on recently inducted niche technologies and a range of artillery weapon systems currently in service with the Indian Army. The sessions highlighted the transformation of artillery into a highly technology-driven arm, capable of delivering precision firepower and providing critical battlefield support across diverse operational scenarios.
Senior instructors and officers from the School of Artillery explained the growing significance of advanced artillery systems in contemporary conflicts, drawing lessons from recent global military engagements. The discussions provided cadets with a deeper understanding of precision engagement, network-enabled operations, and the integration of firepower into modern combat strategies.
A key highlight of the visit was a live firing demonstration, offering cadets a rare opportunity to witness the operational employment of artillery systems firsthand. The demonstration showcased the accuracy, range, and destructive capability of modern artillery platforms, underscoring the Regiment’s vital role in supporting manoeuvre forces and shaping battlefield outcomes.
Officials noted that such exposure programmes are instrumental in bridging the gap between classroom instruction and operational realities. By observing artillery systems in action, cadets gained practical insights into the integration of technology, firepower, and tactical planning in military operations.
The visit also enabled meaningful interaction with artillery officers and instructors, providing cadets with a better understanding of the Regiment’s operational ethos, traditions, and future capabilities. These engagements offered valuable perspectives on leadership, professional excellence, and the challenges of operating in increasingly complex and technology-driven combat environments.
The programme concluded with cadets expressing appreciation for the opportunity to witness modern artillery operations and gain firsthand knowledge of one of the Indian Army’s most decisive combat arms.
The visit forms part of the Indian Army’s broader commitment to developing future leaders through comprehensive exposure to its various arms and services, ensuring young officers are well-prepared to lead effectively in the evolving character of warfare.
