Ex-Agniveer Reservation 2026: CAPF, Assam Rifles and State Police Quotas Explained
Ex-Agniveers now get 50% reservation in CAPF Constable (GD) and Assam Rifles Rifleman posts, with age relaxation and exemption from the written exam, PST and PET. This guide covers the central quotas, state police reservations, eligibility and how to apply.
Completing four years under the Agnipath scheme is only half the journey. The question every Agniveer asks is simple: which government jobs are reserved for me, and by how much? The answer is scattered across MHA statements, gazette notifications, Ministry of Defence memoranda and state announcements. This guide puts it in one place, using the latest official information as of October 2026.
Important: As of the MHA statement in July 2026, the first batch of Agniveers had not yet completed its term. Since they joined from late 2022, the first exits are expected to begin around the end of 2026 and early 2027. The government has announced the benefits in advance.
What Is the Ex-Agniveer Reservation Policy?
The ex-Agniveer reservation is a set of quotas that give Agniveers who complete their four-year engagement priority in specific government recruitment. Most of these quotas are horizontal reservations, which means they cut across the existing vertical categories such as General, OBC, SC and ST rather than replacing them. An OBC ex-Agniveer, for example, is selected within the OBC category.
Under the Agnipath scheme, about 25% of each batch is retained in the regular armed forces. The rest leave with the Seva Nidhi corpus fund and can use the reservations below.
Ex-Agniveer Quota in CAPF and Assam Rifles
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha in July 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs said ex-Agniveers have a new recruitment category for CAPFs and Assam Rifles. The benefits are:
-
50% reservation in Constable (General Duty) posts in the CAPFs and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles
-
3 years of relaxation in the upper age limit for ex-Agniveers, and 5 years for the first batch
-
Exemption from the written exam, the Physical Standards Test (PST) and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

BSF was the first force to raise its quota. A gazette notification in December 2025 increased the reservation for ex-Agniveers in BSF constable recruitment from 10% to 50%, with the same age relaxation and the PST and PET exemption. A 10% quota notified earlier for BSF, CISF, CRPF and SSB also remains on record. Because each force changes its own recruitment rules, always check the rules and recruitment notice of the force you are applying to.
Other Central Government Jobs
The Ministry of Defence provides 10% horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment to the Indian Coast Guard and to civilian posts under the Ministry, including Defence PSUs. It covers Group A, B, C and lower posts, except scientific and technical posts, and is over and above the reservation for ex-servicemen.
State Police Quotas for Ex-Agniveers
States decide their own quotas, and their status differs:
-
Uttar Pradesh: The state cabinet approved a 20% horizontal reservation in June 2025 for Police Constable, PAC, Mounted Police and Fireman, with 3 years of age relaxation.
-
Haryana: The Haryana Agniveer Policy 2024 provided 10% in constable, forest guard and jail warder recruitment. The chief minister has since said police recruitment will get 20%, so check the latest gazette.
-
Odisha: 10% reservation in police and other uniformed services, with 5 years of age relaxation.
-
Other states: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and others have announced quotas or preference for police and uniformed services. Percentages and rules differ and some are not final, so check each state's recruitment notice.
Eligibility and Documents
The rules differ by force and post, so always read the recruitment notice. In general:
-
You must have completed your Agniveer engagement and hold the discharge or release documents the notice asks for.
-
You must meet the educational qualification and age limit (including relaxation) for the post.
-
You must apply under the ex-Agniveer category at registration. If you don't choose it, you won't get the benefit.
-
Medical examination and document verification still apply, even where the written exam, PST and PET are waived.
Keep your Agniveer service and discharge papers and your Seva Nidhi records safely, and read the notice to see exactly which certificates are required.
How to Apply Under the Ex-Agniveer Category
-
Watch the right portals. Check the official websites of the force (BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, Assam Rifles), SSC for GD constable drives, the Indian Coast Guard, and your state police board.
-
Read the notice carefully. Check the number of vacancies in the ex-Agniveer category, the age limit and relaxation, and the documents required.
-
Prepare your documents in advance, including your discharge or release certificate, education certificates and category certificates.
-
Select the ex-Agniveer category on the application form.
-
Complete the remaining stages, such as medical examination and document verification, as the notice describes.
