Eligibility Criteria

Marital status: Only unmarried men qualify. Applicants must pledge to remain unmarried through the entire training span. Marrying after applying leads to disqualification, and marriage during training can trigger discharge plus recovery of training costs.

Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries intending to settle permanently in India. A Certificate of Eligibility may be needed for certain foreign-origin categories, though Gorkha subjects of Nepal are exempt.

Age: The candidate must be between 16½ and 19½ years on 1 July 2027. Birth dates from 1 January 2008 to 1 January 2011 are accepted, both ends included. Only the date of birth printed on the Class 10 certificate counts, and no later correction is allowed.

Education: A pass in 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, plus at least 60% aggregate across those three subjects. The PCM percentage must be entered up to two decimals without rounding; any false entry cancels candidature.

JEE Main 2026: Appearing in JEE Main 2026 is mandatory, and the JEE application number must be entered in the TES form.

Salary and Stipend

After commissioning, a Lieutenant is placed at Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500), along with Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month for officers from Lieutenant up to Brigadier. During training, Gentlemen Cadets draw a fixed stipend of ₹56,100 per month once they finish three years. Additional benefits include Dearness Allowance, Dress Allowance, Transport Allowance, hardship allowances where relevant, and other admissible entitlements.

Training and Commission

The programme spans four years: three years at a Cadets Training Wing (CME Pune, MCTE Mhow, or MCEME Secunderabad) followed by one year at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Graduates receive an engineering degree and a Permanent Commission as Lieutenant. A maximum of two academic relegations are permitted per the applicable JNU Ordinance.

Selection Process

Selection flows through application shortlisting (based on JEE Main CRL and other parameters), a two-stage SSB Interview lasting up to five days, a medical examination at a military hospital, preparation of the merit list, and finally the joining letter. The merit list is built solely on SSB marks; NCC background or past academic records add no extra weight. SSB centres include Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, and Jalandhar.
