Every cycle, thousands of aspirants lose valuable preparation time because they wait for the official announcement before opening a single book. The Agniveer Vayu notification follows a clear and predictable pattern, and once you understand it, you can start preparing months before the registration window opens.

This guide explains how the Vayu intake cycle works, when the Agniveer Vayu next notification 2027 is expected, what the eligibility criteria and exam pattern look like, and gives you a month-by-month plan you can start today.

How the Agniveer Vayu Intake Cycle Works

Under the Agnipath scheme IAF, the Indian Air Force recruits Agniveervayu for a four-year engagement. The IAF runs two intakes a year, and each intake is named in the format 01/YYYY or 02/YYYY.

The most important thing to understand: the intake year is roughly one year after the notification year. The number refers to when selected candidates join training, not when the notification is released. For example, the notification for Intake 01/2027 came out in January 2026.

Here is how the recent cycles have run:

Intake

Notification Released

01/2026

March 2025

02/2026

02/2027

17 June 2026

22–23 September 2026

01/2028

The pattern is consistent: one notification in January (exam around March) and one in June–July (exam around September).

Each cycle follows the same stages:

  1. Official notification on iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in, covering eligibility, the Agniveer Vayu syllabus and exam dates

  2. Online registration, usually open for about three weeks

  3. Phase 1: Agniveer Vayu written test (online)

  4. Phase 2: Physical fitness test PFT and Adaptability Tests at Airmen Selection Centres

  5. Phase 3: Medical examination

  6. Final merit and enrolment list

How to Prepare for Agniveer Vayu Before the Notification Releases

You don’t need the notification to start. The syllabus and exam pattern have stayed the same for years, so here is how to prepare for Agniveer Vayu in the months before the January 2027 notification.

Start with subject priority. Science-stream candidates should give the most time to Physics and Mathematics, since they carry 50 of the 70 or 100 questions. Other than Science candidates should focus on Reasoning and General Awareness, which carries 30 of 50 questions. Everyone needs English.

Train for PFT early. Men need to finish 1.6 km in under 7 minutes, and many aspirants struggle with this. Aim for 6 minutes 30 seconds in practice so you have a buffer on test day. Women should aim for around 7 minutes 30 seconds.

Practise with the negative marking in mind. With 0.25 marks lost per wrong answer, don’t guess blindly, but don’t skip questions where you can rule out options either.

Month-by-Month Preparation Roadmap (November 2026 to March 2027)

This plan is timed for the expected January 2027 notification and March 2027 exam.

  • Take one full-length mock test every week and track accuracy and speed separately.

  • Bring your 1.6 km run under 7:30 (men) or 8:15 (women) and add push-ups, sit-ups and squats.

January 2027: Mocks and Registration

  • Register as soon as the notification is out. Don’t wait for the last week, when the portal slows down.

  • Keep scanned documents ready: Class 10 and 12 marksheets, photograph, signature and identity proof.

  • Move to two mocks a week and revise weak chapters.

  • Get your run under 7 minutes (men) or 8 minutes (women).

February–March 2027: Final Phase

  • Take three or more mocks a week under timed conditions.

  • Revise formulas and short notes daily.

  • Practise the full PFT sequence (run, then push-ups, sit-ups and squats with short breaks) twice a week.
