Agniveer CRPF 2026: How Ex-Agniveers Can Join the Central Armed Police Forces
Quick summary
The 2026 rules give ex-Agniveers 50% of Constable (GD) seats in CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles, with age relaxation and exemption from the written exam, PST and PET. Here’s how to apply.
Around 18,300 Agniveers from the first batch complete their four-year tenure by 31 December 2026, and most of them have the same question: what next? Joining the Central Armed Police Forces is one of the strongest options available, and in 2026 the rules became much more favourable.
This guide explains the current quota, age relaxation, test exemptions, force-by-force position and how to apply, so ex-Agniveers and their families have everything in one place.
What Changed in 2026: A New Ex-Agniveer Category
In July 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a major update through a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The government created a separate “Ex-Agniveer” recruitment category for:
Constable (General Duty) posts in all CAPFs: CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB
Rifleman posts in Assam Rifles
Under this category, ex-Agniveers get:
The MHA has also set up a dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing to coordinate their progression.
50% vs 10%: Which Quota Applies to You?
There are now two reservation levels, and it’s easy to mix them up:
50% Constable GD quota ex-Agniveer: applies to Constable (GD) in all CAPFs and Rifleman in Assam Rifles under the new category.
10% horizontal reservation CAPF: this was the original 2024 rule for constable posts. It continues for other CAPF recruitments outside the new Constable (GD) category.
Force-by-Force Position: CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles
Each force publishes its own recruitment notification. Always confirm the exact quota and stages in the notification you’re applying to.
Age Relaxation for Ex-Agniveers
The age relaxation ex-Agniveer CAPF benefit works like this:
First batch: up to 5 years above the prescribed upper age limit
All later batches: up to 3 years
These are not added together. A first-batch Agniveer gets 5 years, not 8.
.
Test Exemptions: What Ex-Agniveers Skip
Under the new category, ex-Agniveers are exempt from:
Written examination
Physical Standards Test (PST)
Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
These physical efficiency test exemption benefits recognise the physical and combat training already completed during Agnipath service. The exemptions apply subject to the conditions set out in each force’s recruitment rules, so read the notification carefully. Candidates will still need to complete the remaining stages, such as medical examination and document verification.
These benefits are separate from the Seva Nidhi package that Agniveers receive on exit. One is a recruitment benefit; the other is a financial payout.
How to Apply for CAPF After Agnipath Discharge
Keep your exit documents ready. This includes your discharge documents, Agniveer Skill Certificate and service records, plus identity, education and domicile proofs.
Track official notifications. Each force announces recruitment separately on its official website (for example crpf.gov.in, bsf.gov.in), and the Assam Rifles has its own portal.
Apply under the Ex-Agniveer category. Choose this category during the online application, not the open category, to claim the 50% quota.
Check which stages apply. Most ex-Agniveer applicants skip the written exam, PST and PET, but confirm remaining stages like medical examination in your notification.
Report for the remaining stages with original documents.
What About State Police?
Several state governments have announced their own quotas or preferences for ex-Agniveers in police recruitment. These rules are set by each state separately, so check your state’s police recruitment notification or government gazette for the current quota.
FAQs
What is the reservation for ex-Agniveers in CRPF and other CAPFs?
Ex-Agniveers get 50% reservation in Constable (GD) posts in all CAPFs, including CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB, and in Rifleman posts in Assam Rifles, under a new Ex-Agniveer category announced in July 2026. The earlier 10% reservation continues for other CAPF recruitments.
How much age relaxation do ex-Agniveers get in CAPF recruitment?
The first batch of ex-Agniveers gets up to 5 years’ relaxation in the upper age limit. All later batches get up to 3 years. The two are not added together.
Which tests are ex-Agniveers exempted from?
Under the new Ex-Agniveer category, ex-Agniveers are exempt from the written examination, Physical Standards Test and Physical Efficiency Test, subject to the conditions in each force’s recruitment rules. Remaining stages such as medical examination still apply.
Is the 50% quota only for the first batch?
No. The 50% of Constable (GD) vacancies is reserved for ex-Agniveers in every recruitment year, not just for the first batch. Only the extra age relaxation of 5 years is specific to the first batch.
Does the Assam Rifles have an ex-Agniveer quota?
Yes. Ex-Agniveers get 50% reservation in Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles, along with the same age relaxation and test exemptions.
