If you have worked hard in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and earned your ‘C’ Certificate, the Indian Army offers you a special way to become an officer. Through the NCC Special Entry Scheme, eligible graduates can go straight to the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview without writing any exam like CDS.
This guide explains the NCC Special Entry Scheme in simple terms: who can apply, the latest vacancies, how selection works, training, pay and how to apply.
The NCC Special Entry Scheme lets graduates with a minimum ‘B’ grade in the NCC ‘C’ Certificate join the Indian Army as officers through Short Service Commission, without a written exam. Age limit is 19 to 25 years. As per the latest notification for the course starting in April 2027, there are 76 vacancies (70 for men and 6 for women). Shortlisted candidates face the SSB interview and a medical exam, and selected candidates train for 49 weeks at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai.
What Is the NCC Special Entry Scheme?
The NCC Special Entry Scheme is an officer entry into the Indian Army for NCC cadets who hold the ‘C’ Certificate. It is a Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) entry, which means you join as an officer for a fixed period, with the option to continue longer.
The biggest advantage is that there is no written exam. Candidates are shortlisted based on their NCC and graduation marks and are then called directly for the SSB interview. Notifications are usually released twice a year, for courses starting in April and October.
