Navy Officer Amit Singh - From Engineering to Warship

Amit Singh's story is about following your passion and making a difference. After working as a software engineer for three years, he decided to pursue his childhood dream of joining the Indian Navy.\n\nEarly Life and Career:\nAmit was born in Delhi and pursued engineering from IIT Delhi. After graduation, he joined a multinational company as a software engineer with a lucrative salary package.\n\n"I was earning well and had a comfortable life, but something was missing. I always wanted to serve the nation, and the corporate world couldn't fulfill that desire," he recalls.\n\nDecision to Join Navy:\nAt the age of 25, Amit made the bold decision to leave his engineering job and prepare for the Indian Navy. His family and friends were surprised by his decision.\n\n"Everyone thought I was crazy to leave a high-paying job. But I knew that money couldn't buy the satisfaction of serving the nation," he says.\n\nCDS Preparation:\nAmit started preparing for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination. He had to balance his job with preparation initially, but later quit to focus entirely on his goal.\n\n"I used to study for 6-8 hours daily. My engineering background helped me in mathematics and reasoning, but I had to work hard on general knowledge," he explains.\n\nSSB Interview:\nThe SSB interview was challenging, but Amit's leadership experience in college and work helped him. He was recommended in his first attempt.\n\n"I had experience leading teams in college and at work. This helped me in group tasks and personal interview," he says.\n\nNavy Training:\nAmit joined the Indian Naval Academy in 2020. The training was rigorous and transformed him completely.\n\n"Navy training is tough but rewarding. You learn discipline, leadership, and the true meaning of service. The physical and mental challenges make you stronger," he recalls.\n\nSpecialization in Engineering:\nGiven his engineering background, Amit was selected for the technical branch. He specialized in marine engineering and weapons systems.\n\n"My engineering background was an advantage. I could understand complex systems quickly and contribute effectively to technical discussions," he explains.\n\nCommanding a Warship:\nAfter completing his training, Amit was posted on a warship and quickly rose through the ranks. He is now a Lieutenant Commander and has commanded several missions.\n\n"Commanding a warship is a huge responsibility. You're responsible for the safety of your crew and the success of your mission. It's both challenging and rewarding," he says.\n\nInternational Operations:\nAmit has participated in several international operations and exercises. He has represented India in joint exercises with other navies.\n\n"Representing India on international platforms is a matter of great pride. You realize the importance of your role in maintaining peace and security," he emphasizes.\n\nLife Lessons:\nAmit's journey has taught him valuable life lessons about leadership, responsibility, and service.\n\n"The Navy has taught me that true leadership is about serving others. You lead by example and put your team's welfare above your own," he says.\n\nMessage to Aspirants:\nAmit has a message for those considering a career in the defense forces: "Don't let age or career background stop you from pursuing your dreams.
